Guwahati, July 21 (IBNS): The death toll in monsoon flooding in Assam has risen to 67 as still over 38 lakh people continue to face a lot of problems.
The flood water in several flood affected areas in the state has receded, but still over 38 lakh people of 18 districts in the state are under water.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), five persons have died due to flood in the state in past 24 hours and the death toll mounted to 67.
Five persons have died in Dhemaji, Goalpara, Kamrup and Morigaon district in past 24 hours.
According to the reports, two persons drowned in flood waters in Morigaon district while one each in Dhemaji, Goalpara and Kamrup districts.
A total of 2,669 villages and 1,35,226 hectare of crop lands are still under water. A total of 658 relief camps and 171 relief distribution centres in the flood-hit districts are now operational and 1,15,389 flood affected people have taken shelter in the relief camps.
On the other hand, the water level of the Brahmaputra river and its tributaries are receding but still flowing above danger level marks in four places in the state.
