Assam flood: Nearly 3.20 lakh people of 13 district affect

Guwahati/IBNS: The flood situation in Assam is still grim as nearly 3.20 lakh people of 13 districts of the state have been affected by the third wave of flood this year.

The fresh wave of flood has claimed two lives in the past 72 hours.

A person drowned in flood waters at Raha area in Nagaon district on Monday.

According to the flood report of Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), nearly 3.20 lakh people of 13 districts – Nagaon, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Kamrup, Morigaon, Hojai, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, West Karbi Anglong have been affected in the current spate of deluge.

Over 1.98 lakh people have been affected in Nagaon district alone followed by 36,000 people in Morigaon district, 25,000 people in Kamrup, 14,000 people in Dhemaji, 12,500 people in Lakhimpur, 10,600 people in Dibrugarh district.

The flood waters have submerged 13,463 hectares of agricultural land of 389 villages.

Several relief camps have been set up by the administration in the flood affected districts and many people have been forced to take shelter on roads and higher lands.

On the other hand, the water levels of Brahmaputra river are flowing above danger level at Nimatighat in Jorhat district and Tezpur in Sonitpur district, Jia Bharali river at NT Road Crossing in Sonitpur district and Kopili river at Dharamtul and Kampur in Nagaon district and rising in many other places.

Owing to rise of the water level of Brahmaputra river in Guwahati, the Kamrup (Metro) district administration has suspended the plying of all types of boats, ferry services in the district from Monday till further orders.
