Guwahati/IBNS : Indian army and Assam forest department have jointly rescued an elephant calf and her mother from a water tank located inside an army camp in Guwahati on Sunday morning.

The baby elephant and its mother were separated from a herd and were stuck in the water tank at the army camp at Narengi area in the capital city of Assam.

The calf and mother came there along with its herd and fell into the water while attempting to drink water.

In the morning, when some army personnel noticed it, they immediately informed senior officials and forest department.

Later, army personnel and forest department personnel safely rescued both from the water tank by using JCBs, rope and other materials.

The rescue operation lasted for 2 hours.

An army official said the rescue operation was very difficult.
