Bengal Speech and Hearing Aid launches 'Speech Plus'

Kolkata, Apr 16 (IBNS): Bengal Speech and Hearing, a speech and language pathology clinic, launched "Speech Plus" in the presence of singer Ajoy Chakraborty recently.

According to the National Sample Survey of India (NSSO) 10 percent of the total population is affected by some sort of communication problem in India.

"Simple things like yelling, screaming, speaking out of range, overuse of voice can be actually cured, which can otherwise hold people back from doing well in their lives, but can be easily cured with professional speech therapy," said executive director of Bengal Speech and Hearing, Somnath Mukherjee.

However, Mukherjee cleared that Speech Plus is only meant for people below average communication performance.

"Any person who approaches us is first tested, depending on the results we decide if our help is needed," he said.

Depending on the severity, duration of therapy varies, but approximately seven to eight months required for a dedicated and motivated client because voice problems in these individuals can be career threatening, said Mukherjee.

Sharing his experience, Ajay Chakraborty said: "I suffered stroke in the year 2009, after which I started working with speech therapist Somnath Mukherjee."

"I plan to take his help for the students of my school.Voice is such a part and parcel of our persona yet most people fail to realise the importance in getting it right with the help of professional speech therapists," he added.
