New Delhi/IBNS: The total number of Covid-19 cases have touched 1,009 in India with the recent spread of virus in several states, media reports said.

Delhi has so far recorded the highest number of active cases. The national capital has reported 104 active cases.

In terms of maximum number of cases, Delhi, Kerala and Maharashtra are worst-hit states.

Delhi, Kerala and Maharashtra reported 430, 335 and 209 cases respectively.

Among other states that have seen a spike are Gujarat (83 active cases), Tamil Nadu (69 active cases), Karnataka (47 active cases), Uttar Pradesh (15 active cases) and Rajasthan (13 active cases).

Seven Covid-related deaths have so far been reported from across the country since May 19.

The seven deaths are from Maharashtra (3), Kerala (2) and Karnataka (1).

Though the new spike in Covid cases is not a major danger, the Union Health Ministry has appealed to people to exercise basic coronavirus-appropriate behaviour.

The health departments across the state of a vast country of 1.4 billion people have been asked to test people with symptoms of Influenza-like Illness (ILI) or severe acute respiratory infection.
