COVID-19: West Bengal records highest-ever single-day spike of 572 cases, tally crosses 17000-mark

Kolkata/IBNS: With highest single-day spike of 572 cases, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in West Bengal has mounted to 17283, including 5451 active cases, 639 deaths and 11193 discharges, reports said on Sunday.

According to a bulletin issued by West Bengal Health and Family Welfare (WBHFW) department, 10 people succumbed to coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours while 404 more Covid-19 patients were discharged from various health facilities across the state, taking the recovery rate to 64.76 per cent.

The WBHFW bulletin stated that of the 572 new cases, 381 cases (66.61 per cent) were reported from three neighbouring districts— Kolkata (171), North 24 Parganas (132) and Howrah (78), while Malda district in north Bengal recorded 51 fresh Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours.

In state capital Kolkata, 5573 confirmed cases of novel coronavirus, including 1937 active cases, 366 fatalities and 3270 recoveries, have been recorded till date, according to the bulletin. 

West Bengal has tested 4,68,906 samples till date with 10563 tests conducted in 51 testing facilities across the state in the last 24 hours, reports said.
Currently, 6937 persons are kept in government quarantine centres and 77217 people are under home surveillance in the state.
