First in India malarial parasite 'plasmodium ovale' detected in Kerala
Thiruvananthapuram/IBNS: A new genus of malarial parasite called plasmodium ovale has been found in Kerala, state's health minister KK Shailaja said.
The new genus of the malarial parasite came to light during the treatment of a soldier who had returned from Sudan.
"Plasmodium ovale, a new genus of malaria, has been detected in the State. It was found in a soldier who was being treated at the District hospital in Kannur. The soldier had come from Sudan," Ms Shailaja wrote on Twitter.
