India is witnessing only local transmission of COVID 19 at present: Luv Aggarwal

New Delhi/IBNS: The Indian government on Monday said the country is witnessing only 'local transmission' of the COVID 19 disease at present.

"No community transmission has taken place so far. Only local transmission of COVID 19 is seen in India," Luv Aggarwal, Joint Secretary, Health Ministry, said during a press conference.

The Indian government on Monday said 92 new COVID 19 infection cases have been reported in India in the past 24 hours.

Luv Aggarwal said, "92 new cases of COVID19 and four deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours."

He said: "All who have existing health issues and the elderly must strictly follow lockdown guidelines."

As India is going through a massive 21-day lockdown, which began on last Wednesday, the migrant workers were seen crossing the state borders to reach their homes though the central government has repeatedly urged people to stay wherever they were to stop the spread of COVID-19.

While several migrant workers were seen harassed by police officials on roads, Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his monthly radio address to the nation on Sunday apologised for causing "inconvenience" to the poor.

As per the update at 4pm, India reported 1197 infected cases.

So far, 34 people have died due to COVID 19 in India.

110 people have recovered from the disease.
