New Delhi/IBNS: India reported 7,189 COVID-19 cases while the toll went up by 387 in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry stated on Saturday.

In the same span of time, 7,286 COVID-19 patients have recovered.

The recovery percentage now stands at 98.40%, the highest since Mar 2020.

The active cases now account for 0.22%, the lowest since Mar 2020.

The ministry on Saturday said 415 cases related to COVID-19 variant, 'Omicron', have so far been reported in the country with the majority of them coming from Maharashtra.

Amid the spike in COVID-19 cases and the 'Omicron' spread, the Maharashtra government has imposed fresh preventive measures, restricting gatherings of five or more between 9 pm and 6 am.

The new guidelines, which will come into effect from midnight, restrict attendance at indoor weddings to 100 people and not more than 250 people or 25 per cent whichever is less in case of outdoor weddings.

Indoor venues like gyms, spas, hotels, theatres and cinema halls will be allowed to function with 50 percent capacity while sports events will be allowed to have 25 percent occupancy.
