New Delhi/IBNS: India, a country of 1.3 billion people, on Thursday reported the biggest daily spike by adding over 95,000 fresh infections in the last 24 hours.

95,735 new Covid-19 cases were reported from 36 Indian states and union territories, pushing the overall tally of infections to 44,65,864.

11,29,756 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.

The Covid-19 toll has touched 75,062 as 1,172 patients succumbed to the virus in the last one day.

While 3,471,784 people have been discharged so far in the country, 9,19,018 patients are still under medical supervision.

In a setback for the medical fraternity and the entire world which is still struggling to cope up with the contagion, pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca has halted the Phase 3 study testing of a Covid-19 vaccine after a suspected serious adverse reaction was seen in a participant in the United Kingdom.

A spokesperson for AstraZeneca, a frontrunner in the race for a Covid-19 vaccine, told Statnews in a statement that the company’s “standard review process triggered a pause to vaccination to allow review of safety data.”
