India reports first XE COVID-19 variant case

Mumbai: India on Wednesday reported its first  XE variant of the coronavirus disease case in Mumbai, media reports said.

Results of the 11th genome sequencing declared by the city civic body Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC,)  found one sample positive for XE variant and another for Kappa variant, reports Hindustan Times.

India is witnessing a decline in COVID-19 cases for the past several weeks now.

India recorded 1,086 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, slightly higher than the daily count recorded for the past two days, as per data released by the Ministry of Health on Wednesday.

During the same period, 71 people died due to the virus.

India's active caseload currently stands at 11,871.

Active cases stand at 0.03 percent.

Recovery Rate currently at 98.76 percent.

1,198 people recovered from the disease during the 24-hour period.

Daily positivity rate now stands at 0.23 percent.
