Iran's parliament speaker infected with COVID-19: Report
Tehran/Xinhua: Speaker of Iran's Parliament Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf announced on Wednesday that he has been infected with COVID-19, Tasnim news agency reported.
"One of my office colleagues got the coronavirus, and at midnight, my own test result was positive for the coronavirus," Qalibaf wrote in a message on Twitter.
The speaker and also former Tehran's mayor further noted that he is currently in quarantine, but will continue working.
In recent weeks, Iranian health authorities have reintroduced strict protective measures and compulsory use of face masks in the capital Tehran and major cities, following a resurgence of COVID-19 across the country.
On Oct 7, Iran's President Hassan Rouhani criticized Qalibaf for not following the instructions of the National Headquarters for Managing and Fighting the Coronavirus.
The criticism was expressed after Qalibaf's visit to the intensive care unit of patients with COVID-19 at Imam Khomeini Hospital in Tehran.
