Karnataka reports biggest Covid spike this year with nearly 8000 cases in last 24 hrs

Bengaluru/IBNS: Karnataka reported a whopping 7,955 coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, the highest single-day spike in the state this year.

With this spike, the number of active cases has gone up to 58,084 in the state.

Bengaluru alone has reported over 5,000 coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours.

During this period, 46 people died in the state, taking the death count to 12,813.

The five most-affected states in the country are Maharashtra, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

Bengaluru and six other cities in Karnataka will impose a night curfew from Saturday, the state government had announced.

The night curfew will be in place from 10 pm to 5 am till April 20, the Karnataka government announced on Thursday.

Besides Bengaluru, the night curfew will also be imposed in Mysuru, Mangaluru, Kalaburagi, Bidar, Tumakuru and Manipal.

Continuing the surge in the daily count, India registered 1,31,968 new Covid-19 cases between Thursday and Friday mornings, as per Ministry of Health released data.

During the same period, 780 people lost their lives due to the virus. The death toll due to the virus now stands at 1,67,642.
