Kerala reports 19,688 new COVID cases, 135 deaths

Thiruvananthapuram/UNI: Showing no respite from rising number of COVID cases and deaths, Kerala on Monday reported fresh 19,688 positive cases and 135 deaths.

About 28,561 people have recovered from the disease today, a press release from the health department said this evening.

Meanwhile, 135 recent deaths were confirmed on Monday due to Covid taking the fatality toll in the state to 21,631.

About 1,17,823 samples were tested during the last 24 hours and the Test Positivity Rate (TPR) is 16.71 %. A total of 3,25,08,136 samples have been sent for testing till this day.

Currently 6,20,739 people are under observation in the state -- 5,87,582 are at their homes or institutional quarantine centres and 33,157 in hospitals. On Monday, 2,463 people were admitted to the hospital with virus Infection.

Weekly Infection Population Ratio (WIPR) is above 7 at 296 places under various Local Self Governments (LSGs) where strict restriction is being imposed.

In the last 24 hours, Covid was not detected in any person who recently came to Kerala from the UK. So far, 11 people who came from the UK were diagnosed with the genetically modified.
