Men above 50 should test for prostrate cancers: Experts
Kolkata, June 7 (IBNS): All men above the age of 50 should get themselves tested for prostrate cancers since it has emerged as one of the biggest killers of men worldwide but could be cured if detected early, said doctors ahead of a conference on the disease under the auspices of Apollo Gleneagles Hospital, Kolkata.
To spread awareness about prostrate cancer, Apollo Gleneagles Hospital in association with the Board of Education (BOE) of the Urological Society of India(USI) is holding a two day conference on Ca Prostrate Biopsy and its subsequent treatment through Robotic Surgery.
Ca Prostrate corresponds to prostrate cancer also known as carcinoma of the prostrate. It is the development of cancer in the prostrate, a gland in the male reproductive system.
The main aim of the conference is to spread awareness and convey to the masses that the disease can be cured if tested regularly.
In a press conference ahead of the June-6-7 conference, experts said all men above the age of 50 should get themselves tested for Ca prostrate.
Professor Prokar Dasgupta, Editor-in-chief, BUJ International and Chairman, Robotic Surgery, Guys Hospital, England said, ”The conference will be a golden opportunity to bring some clarity of concepts in the surgical management and decision-making regarding Ca prostate.”
Dr.Amit Ghosh, Colsultant Urologist, Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals and Organizing Secretary , BOE USI, said: "We feel it is important to address significant issues regarding Prostate Carcinoma. This program is aimed at providing a holistic approach about Ca prostate and its treatment in India.”
Speaking on the occasion Dr Rupali Basu, President and CEO- Eastern Region, Apollo Hospitals Group, said, "Apollo Gleneagles Cancer Hospital is the only equipped hospital offering a multi-disciplinary treatment for prostate cancer in Eastern India”.
Experts said Prostate Cancer has emerged as one of the largest killers of men worldwide. Unlike other types of cancers, prostate cancer has no symptoms in its early stages .
"Beginning from early diagnosis to Robotic surgery and palliative care, doctors are striving to make the treatment as effective as possible," said experts.
The conference "Best Practices in Ca prostate" will highlight tailor-made investigation protocols and treatment options based on the patient’s mentality and expectations.
The organisers said the conference on Ca prostate will have a very innovative structure wherein, in each session, the current guidelines and standards of practice supported by case studies will be discussed by a panel of faculty from both India and abroad. Some of the topics will include early Ca Prostate, margin positive, SV invasion, extra capsular extension, advanced malignancy etc.
On June 7 there will a special demonstrative robotic surgery.
