Multiple tremors in different parts of India

New Delhi, Sept 12 (IBNS) : Mild to low intensity of earthquakes shook different parts of north eastern, eastern and northern India on Wednesday morning, triggering panic among the people, reports said.

An earthquake of 5.5 magnitude hit Assam's Kokrajhar district and neighbouring states of Meghalaya, Sikkim, Nagaland, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh  in the north-east, Indian meteorological department said.

Tremors were also felt in Kolkata,  Cooch Behar, Alipirduar and Darjeeling districts of West Bengal, as well as parts of Bihar.

According to the meteorological office, the  earthquake stuck around 10:20 am at a depth of 13 kilometers.

The epicenter of the earthquake has been located at  Sapatgram, in Dhubri district of Assam, about 250 km from Guwahati.  So far, there have been no reports of loss of life or damage to property, according to Assam State Disaster Management Authority.

An earthquake of 3.1 on the Richter scale was felt in Haryana at 5 43 am with its epicentre being traced at the depth of  5 Km from Jhajjar,Haryana

An earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter Scale hit Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday,  as per India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The epicenter of the quake was located on latittude 35.6 degrees north and longitude 76.3 degrees east.

It hit the state at around  5.15 a.m.

No casualty in either of the earthquakes  has been reported so far.
