PM Modi takes first dose of Covid-19 vaccine at AIIMS

New Delhi/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here Monday.

Modi, 70, took the first dose of indigenous Covaxin as the second vaccination drive, which aims to inoculate people over 60 years of age and above 45 with co-morbidities, kicked off Mar 1.

Taking to Twitter, the Prime Minister has also appealed to all eligible citizens to take the vaccine.

He tweeted, "Took my first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at AIIMS. Remarkable how our doctors and scientists have worked in quick time to strengthen the global fight against COVID-19. I appeal to all those who are eligible to take the vaccine. Together, let us make India COVID-19 free!"

The Prime Minister was reportedly vaccinated by a nurse from Puducherry.

India recorded 15,510 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, as per data released by the Ministry of Health and Monday.

During the same period, 106 people lost their lives due to Covid-19.

The death toll due to the disease now stands at 157157.

There are 1,68,627 active cases in the country at present.
