President condoles the loss of lives in accident, flood

New Delhi, Sept 25 (IBNS): President Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday condoled the loss of lives in accident in which a bus fell into Bhakra Nangal Dam’s Gobind Sagar Reservoir in Himachal Pradesh. He also condoled loss of lives due to floods in certain areas of Meghalaya and Assam.

In a message to Governor of Himachal Pradesh Urmila Singh, President said, “I am deeply saddened to learn about the incident today in which a number of persons lost their lives and some were injured, when a bus fell into Bhakra Nangal Dam’s Gobind Sagar Reservoir in Bilaspur District of Himachal Pradesh. I understand rescue and relief operations are currently underway.

On the other hand in individual messages sent to Governor of Meghalaya Dr. K.K. Paul and Governor of Assam Janaki Ballav Patnaik, President said “I am deeply saddened to learn about the heavy rains leading to floods and landslides in certain areas of the State, which have caused loss of lives, injuries and damage to property. I understand rescue and relief operations are currently underway.

Terming both incidents as heart-breaking, President said, I call upon the State Government and other authorities to provide all possible aid to the bereaved families, who have lost their near and dear ones as well as medical assistance to the injured. Please convey my heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. I wish speedy recovery to the injured persons”.
