Southwest Monsoon advanced into south Andaman Sea & Nicobar Islands, says met officials

New Delhi, May 14 (IBNS): Southwest monsoon has reached the Andaman sea, met officials said on Sunday.

"In view of the strengthening & deepening of southwesterly winds, persistent cloudiness and rainfall, southwest monsoon has advanced into some parts of southeast Bay of Bengal, Nicobar Islands, entire south Andaman Sea and parts of north Andaman Sea today, the 14 th May 2017. The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) passes through Lat.5°N/Long.86°E, Lat.9°N/Long.90°E, Hut Bay and Lat.14°N/Long.98°E," read a statement issued by the IMD.

It said: "Conditions are favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon into some parts of southwest Bay of Bengal, some more parts of southeast Bay of Bengal, remaining parts of Andaman Sea, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and some parts of eastcentral Bay of Bengal during next 72 hours."

The iMD said heavy to very heavy rain is very likely at isolated places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands during May 14 to 16.
