Strayed rhino calf due to flood rescued and released in Kaziranga
Guwahati, Aug 6 (IBNS): The Assam forest department has rescued a rhino calf which strayed into the Karbi Anglong hills area during the flood in Kaziranga National Park.
The forest department, Kaziranga National Park authority and the Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation (CWRC) successfully released the rhino calf in the park on Monday.
The forest department and the Kaziranga National Park authority have recently rescued the rhino calf from the Karbi Anglong hills area and the rhino calf was treated at the CWRC centre, Kaziranga.
Assam forest department PRO Sailen Pandey said that, the rhino calf was successfully rescued and released in the park.
Over 230 wild animals including 18 one horned rhinos mostly rhino calves were died in the recent flood in the national park.
Pandey said that, Kaziranga has lost many wild animals in the recent flood but the entire forest officials, park employees, forest guards had given their all efforts to save wild animals.
“A total of 33 high lands were constructed inside the park following the initiative taken by Assam forest minister Parimal Suklabaidya. These high lands helped the wild animals to take shelter during the deluge. We also took initiative to control vehicular movement on the Asian Highway which passed through the park,” Sailen Pandey said.
