Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 3 (UNI) Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday said a suspected case of Nipah infection has been reported in Ernakulam.

In a Facebook post, the Chief Minister said the Government is closely monitoring the situation.

"Kerala’s health network is capable of handling any emergencies. We request everyone to follow the instructions of the health department," he said in the post.

"While we need to be cautious, it is no cause for panic. We have ramped up a series of measures to tackle the problem; contact tracing, case isolation, quality care and community engagement are being done diligently," he added.

"Care must be taken to not spread rumours through social media," he said.

Earlier unconfirmed reports said a patient was admitted to a private hospital in Ernakulam after being contracted with Nipah virus.
