Three Bengal doctors, including Sagore Dutta Hospital's principal Hasi Dasgupta, succumb to COVID-19 in a single day

Kolkata/IBNS: Three senior West Bengal physicians, including Kolkata's College of Medicine & Sagore Dutta Hospital's principal Hasi Dasgupta, succumbed to the novel coronavirus on Thursday, reports said.

According to reports, 57-year-old Hasi Dasgupta had tested positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday and was admitted to Calcutta Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) where she breathed her last on Thursday afternoon.

Condoling her death, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wrote on Twitter: "Saddened to hear about the tragic death of Dr. Hasi Dasgupta, who lost the battle to COVID-19. She was serving as the Principal of College of Medicine & Sagore Dutta Hospital. We remain in gratitude for her contributions. My prayers are with her family in this tough time."

Two more senior doctors— Jalpaiguri based ENT Surgeon, Mrinal Kanti Acharya, and noted cardiovascular surgeon in Nadia's Kalyani, Ramen Hazra— died of Covid-19 on Thursday in two different private health facilities.

Meanwhile, with 3246 fresh infections reported in the last 24 hours, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in West Bengal has mounted to 4,93,316, including 24106 active cases, 8576 deaths and 4,60,634 recoveries, according to a bulletin issued by the state health department on Thursday.

The bulletin stated that in the past 24 hours, 49 Covid related fatalities were recorded while  3257 more Covid-19 patients were discharged from various hospitals, taking Bengal's coronavirus recovery rate to 93.38 per cent.

West Bengal has tested 60,02,928 samples till date with 44130 tests were conducted in 95 testing laboratories across the state in the last 24 hours.
