US registers more than 77,000 COVID-19 cases in single day

Washington/UNI: The United States registered more than 77,000 new cases of COVID-19 in a day taking the tally of the country to 3,560,364, as per latest statistics released by the Johns Hopkins University on Friday.

The death toll of the disease also rose by 974, taking the country's total death toll to 138,201.

The state of Florida, which has become the worst hit region of the country registered a record 156 deaths on Thursday besides registering about 14,000 new cases.

The United States continues to be the worst-hit nation in the world in absolute terms. Experts are apprehensive that daily cases could soon top 100,000 if the country fails to take steps necessary to stem the spread of the virus.
