Vaccination programme begins in AP in presence of CM
Vijayawada, Jan 16 (UNI) The COVID-19 vaccination programme in Andhra Pradesh was launched in the Government General Hospital (GGH) here on Saturday and the first vaccination was administered to a sanitation worker in the presence of Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.
A sanitation worker of GGH, B Pushpa Kumari was administered the vaccine in the GGH in the presence of the Chief Minister, Health Minister Alla Kalikrishna Srinivas and other officials. Later a health worker C H Naga Jyothi was also administered the vaccine. The doctors and officials explained to the Chief Minister about the vaccination process and technology being used in the state-wide vaccination drive. The Chief Minister released a poster on the COVID-19 vaccine on the occasion.
Official sources said that 332 vaccination centres were set up across the state to administer COVID-19 vaccine to 3.87 lakh people in the first phase.
“It is expected that in the next 15 days all health care workers in the state will be vaccinated. After 28 days a second dose must be administered for all these health care workers. Other frontline workers like Police, Municipal staff, Revenue staff and those who worked in the forefront during Covid will be vaccinated in next phase”, officials said.
The state has received 4.7 lakhs doses of covishield (Serum institute of India) and 20000 doses of covaxin (Bharat Biotech). 4.7 lakh doses of covishield have been distributed to districts and have reached the 332 locations where the programme is being launched, the sources added.
Minister Vallampalli Srinivas, Perni Venkatramaiah, Chief Secretary Aditya Nath Das, MPs V Balasouri and health department principal secretary Anil Kumar Singh were present on the occasion.
In Guntur, Home Minister Mekathoti Sucharita launched the vaccination programme in the GGH. MLA M Giridhar and district Collector Samual Anand were present on the occasion. In Narasaraopet in Guntur district, MLA Dr.Gopireddy himself administered vaccine while woman MLA Dr.Undavalli Sridevi also administered vaccine.
