Wuhan has five new confirmed coronavirus cases - Hubei Health Commission

Beijing/Sputnik/UNI: Five new coronavirus cases have been confirmed in the past 24 hours in the Chinese city of Wuhan, where the coronavirus pandemic started in December 2019, the Hubei Province Health Commission said on Monday.

All five of the new cases were initially registered as asymptomatic ones, however, in the past 24 hours they were reclassified as confirmed coronavirus cases, according to the commission.

On Sunday, the commission reported one new case of COVID-19 infection in Wuhan. This was the first time in over a month that a confirmed coronavirus case was registered in the city.

In the past 24 hours, 11 new asymptomatic coronavirus cases were reported in Hubei Province. Doctors continue to monitor a total of 615 asymptomatic coronavirus carriers in the province.

The Chinese authorities do not include asymptomatic cases in their overall tally, requalifying them as confirmed cases only when the infected individuals start to show symptoms.

In late April, China’s Health Commission Spokesman Mi Feng announced that the number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 symptoms in Wuhan had dropped to zero, marking a major milestone in the fight against the virus. However, fears of a second wave of infection have emerged in China since it began to lift coronavirus restrictions.
