After receiving flak, HRD Ministry issues clarification over IOE tag to Jio institute

New Delhi, July 10 (IBNS): The Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry has come out with a clarification over a controversy regarding the conferment of Institution of Eminence (IOE) tag to Reliance Foundation's proposed Jio Institute.

The central government on Monday awarded IOE status to six educational institutions.

The list includes IIT-Delhi, IIT-Bombay, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), BITS-Pilani, Manipal Academy of High Education along with Jio Institute.

Following the conferment of the tag, the HRD Ministry received flak on social media for including Jio Institute, which is yet to come into existence, in the list of IOE.

Responding to the criticisms, the ministry took to Twitter to issue a clarification.

"In response to some misinformation campaign in social media regarding "Institutes of Eminence", please find herewith clarifications on commonly raised questions #InstituteofEminence" the tweet read.

In the statement issued, the ministry said clause 6.1 of the UGC (Institutions of Eminence Deemed to be Universities) Regulation 2017 provides for a completely new proposal to establish an institution to be considered under this project.
