Assam govt goes to make Assamese as mandatory subject till Class 10 in all SEBA, CBSE schools

Guwahati, May 21 (IBNS): Assam government is planning to make Assamese as a mandatory subject in both Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) and CBSE till Class 10.

Assam education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said that, Assamese will be mandatory in all schools till Class 10.

“But if someone not interested to take up Assamese he or she can opt Bengali or Bodo subject. Bengali subject will be mandatory for Barak Valley schools and Bodo to all Bodo medium schools,” Sarma said.

The Assam minister said that, in this regard Assam government will bring a legislation in the next assembly likely to be held in August next.

“It will applicable in all schools till Class 10 under both SEBA and CBSE in the state,” the Assam education minister said.

The Assam minister said that, after passing the legislation in the state assembly, it will be applicable from next academic session.
