'Bangaler Chharachhori': Memories of another day in limericks
Earlier, in pre-partition Bengal, the residents of East Bengal (later East Pakistan and now Bangladesh), were often referred to as 'bangal'.
The book narrates the story of a refugee displaced by the partition of Bengal.
Gupta reminisces about the time spent in East Pakistan but the emotional account is steeped in humour peppered with typical 'bangal' accents and intonations.
At the inauguration, Goswami reminded everyone that though he was a 'bangal', he spent his days as a footballer wholly devoted to one club, Mohun Bagan, which incidentally happened to be the club of the 'ghoti' (the name given to the people of west Bengal).
