Key performers of the audio theatre, Shankar Chakraborty, Sankar Roy Chowdhury, Alok Roy Ghotok, Arindam Basu and Sumana Bhaduri were present at the announcement held in the Press Club, on Thursday.
“Shaheb-Bibi-Golaam” is a story of a feudal family and how their lavish lifestyle leads to their ultimate decay.
It portrays 19th century Kolkata and the social issues evident during those days.
The novel was first made into a Bengali movie in 1956 starring Uttam Kumar, Sumitra Devi and Chhabi Biswas.
This was followed by a Bollywood adaptation in 1962, starring Meena Kumari, Rehman and Guru Dutt, which was also a blockbuster.
Abhibyakti will present it as an audio drama April 7 at Rabindra Sadan in Kolkata.
The drama is directed by Ranjana Bhanja (founder, Abhibyakti).
Shankar Chakraborty will feature in the role of Bhutnath while Ranjana Bhanja will be Pateswari (Choto Bou), the two key characters in the story.
Veterans Jagannath Basu and Satinath Mukhopadhyay are also part of this audio drama.
The music has been composed by Utsav Bhanja and the credit of background score goes to Santanu Bandyopadhyay.
Arindam Basu (Owner, Carpe Diem) who will feature in a negative role, while speaking to IBNS, said, “This is the first time I am working in audio drama and so I am quite tense.”
He added,” I have acted in drama but this is my first experience in an audio drama.”
Popular actor Shankar Chakraborty also spoke to IBNS and said, “I am not a very optimistic person neither am I a pessimist, yet I am pretty eager to make it a successful venture.”
The event is being co-organized with Jackson Records Digital Entertainment, who will release the live recording of the play after the event, in digital format across streaming apps and popular sites.
