Cocoon Fine Rugs takes the designer route for its premium range

Kolkata, Jan 29 (IBNS): As part of its latest venture, where utility meets art, Cocoon Fine Rugs has entered into a collaboration with architect Ashiesh Shah and his multi-disciplinary design studio.

According to Ayush Chaudhary, owner of Cocoon Fine Rugs, a brand that specialises in hand-knotted luxury rugs in India, the collaboration, largely driven by the transformation of rugs from being mere floor coverings to being aesthetically designed, aims to merge modern design sensibility with traditional rug weaving techniques.

A collector of mid-century design, Shah often uses the mid-century aesthetic in his architectural and interior projects.

For the collaboration with Cocoon Fine Rugs, Shah drew his inspiration from the facades of iconic buildings in the famous Indian city of Chandigarh (designed by the architect Le Corbusier).

Cocoon Fine Rugs' collection of hand knotted rugs, woven with natural, hand spun silk and over twisted, highland, hand spun wool, have been given a unique layered look through Shah's abstraction of the three-dimensional façade into geometric patterns.

According to Shah, coupling rough concrete facets with hand spun silk rugs, bring forth a mid-century aesthetic like none other.

“My collaboration with Cocoon Fine Rugs and its resultant Chand LC Collection is a reflection on the versatility of these woven wonders, they truly add character to a space and radiate timelessness,” said Shah.

Brand owner and designer Chaudhary said, “It was an absolute pleasure collaborating with Ashiesh for our limited-edition Chand LC collection. I think with collaborations like these, focusing on creating design-centric rug collections, innovation will soon be an important part of a rug company’s DNA in the coming time.”
