Delhi to host second Asian Curatorial Forum in November; first edition held in Bangladesh in 2017

Delhi/IBNS: Curators and representatives of art institutions from South Asian and East/Southeast Asian countries will be meeting in Delhi for the second edition of  Asian Curatorial Forum, which will begin on November 7, 2019.

The Forum is being organised by ARTWAVE – Taiwan International Arts Network, an international art platform initiated by the National Culture and Arts Foundation (NCAF), a public foundation and a crucial sponsor of arts in Taiwan.

The three-day Forum, which aims to facilitate exchanges between South Asian and East/Southeast Asian regions, is being organised in collabortion with Prameya Art Foundation, which supports art criticism and art writing in India, and the School of Arts and Aesthetics, Jawaharlal Nehru University.

According to he organisers, the Forum hopes to promote regional collaboration and exchange of curatorial thinking in the short run while making use of this Forum as a foundation to create an international the platform for Taiwan’s active participation in the long run.

Curators and independent institutions that have been the NCAF’s long-term partners and collaborators will be attending the programme in Delhi for the exchange between important curators.

Some of the speakers at the Delhi Forum are Huang Chien-Hung, the Director of Kuandu Art Museum, Taipei National University of the Arts; Sumitomo Fumihiko, the Director of Arts Maebashi, Japan; Cosmin Costinas, the Executive Director of Para Site, Hong Kong; and Alia Swastika, the Director of Jogja Biennale Foundation, Indonesia.

They will participate in the Forum and workshop together with nearly 10 other speakers from the South Asian region, who are invited by the Prameya Art Foundation, and have an in-depth exchange to understand different curatorial thinking and methodologies employed in various Asian regions.

Among the speakers invited by the Prameya Art Foundation are the Indian media artist collective, Raqs Media Collective, and curator Anita Dube.

Raqs Media Collective has curated the Shanghai Biennale and is now in preparation for the curatorial work of the Yokohama Triennale 2020.

Anita Dube is the curator of the the Kochi-Muziris Biennale.

In addition, various leading art museums, independent spaces, art galleries and artist groups in the South Asian countries, including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, are also expected to attend the Forum.

The 1st Asian Curatorial Forum was held in Dhaka, Bangladesh, in 2017.

It was organised in collaoration with the Bengal Foundation at the National Art Gallery of Bangladesh in Dhaka during the Chobi Mela International Festival of Photography.
