Deloitte touches 7, 50,000 lives with its 12th annual Impact Day programme

New Delhi, Nov 28 (IBNS): Deloitte on Friday celebrated the 12th annual edition of its employee-driven community involvement programme for social causes-the Impact Day.
Over 27, 000 Deloitte employees participated in over 140 community projects, in more than 460 locations across 11 cities investing an entire workday to undertake various activities and impact more than 7, 50,000 lives. 
 
On this day, the employees demonstrated solidarity with the organization’s value that ‘both the individuals and the organization must act as responsible business citizens and contribute to the communities in which they live and work.’
 
Impact Day is a celebration of the organization’s year-round strategic community involvement programmes. 
 
“At Deloitte, our experience of twelve years of planned community involvement, has led us to believe that skilled-based volunteerism creates a lasting impact on the community, the people involved and businesses that encourage it. We have seen this in action, and believe that one of the greatest needs in our communities is for compassionate and informed organizations and volunteers who can create a lasting change. Volunteering in general and skills-based volunteerism in particular, is a growing trend among the workforce, especially among the millennials, and businesses must encourage it for the betterment of the society and the country,” said S.V. Nathan, Director – Talent, Deloitte Consulting India Private Limited.
 
Education and employability continue to be key areas of focus this year for Deloitte. On Impact Day, more than 60% of projects were conducted in schools and colleges, and centered on soft skills and curriculum development, library setup, parental counselling and infrastructure enhancements.
 
“Impact Day is a platform dedicated to each of our professionals who wish to contribute towards economic prosperity and social well-being of the community by promoting environmental sustainability, helping young people gain access to education and employability skills, and supporting humanitarian progress. Given the opportunity to lead and manage projects, right from planning to the execution stage, it helps foster leadership skills amongst the professionals, make them more socially conscious and empathetic, and facilitates a solutions-based mindset. Also, this is one day, where professionals from across all our functions, service lines and levels, work as one team, collaboratively, to bring about meaningful change in the community,” said Rani Desai, Chief People Officer, Deloitte in India.
 
“Businesses need to recognize that apart from traditional methods of volunteering, one can accelerate change when they collaborate with nonprofits that are already at the forefront, especially by helping them with their administrative challenges, strategy, and sustainability planning. At Deloitte, similar and other initiatives have resulted in several thousand volunteer and pro bono hours, with employees engaged in year-long activities in India,” SV Nathan added.
