Fresh paper leak rocks India: Maharashtra TET postponed a day before exam, over 4 lakh aspirants affected
Thane/IBNS: Lakhs of candidates preparing to appear for the Maharashtra Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) were left in uncertainty after the examination was postponed following an alleged question paper leak nearly 24 hours before it was scheduled to be held, according to media reports.
The examination was slated to take place on Sunday (June 28) at 1,028 centres across the state.
Around 4.28 lakh aspiring teachers were expected to appear for the eligibility test.
Exam called off to maintain integrity
In an official statement issued on Saturday, the Maharashtra State Council of Examination said the TET had been postponed to ensure the transparency and integrity of the examination process after reports of a question paper leak surfaced.
The council is expected to announce a fresh examination date later.
Police register criminal case
A criminal case has been registered at Bhiwandi Police Station, and an investigation has been launched to trace those responsible for the alleged leak.
Officials are probing how the question paper was circulated and whether a larger network was involved.
Why the leak is significant
The latest paper leak has reignited concerns over the credibility of competitive examinations in India, coming in the backdrop of the NEET-UG controversy, which triggered nationwide outrage over allegations of question paper leaks and irregularities.
The NEET-UG row led to multiple investigations by central agencies, intervention by the Supreme Court, and intensified scrutiny of examination systems across the country.
Against that backdrop, another alleged paper leak involving a major public recruitment examination is likely to deepen concerns among candidates over exam security, fairness and transparency, while adding pressure on authorities to strengthen safeguards against such breaches.
