New Delhi, Sept 23 (IBNS): Popular search engine Google on Saturday designed its homepage with a doodle dedicated to chemist Asima Chatterjee.

She was the first woman to receive a Doctorate of Science in India.

Born on Sept 23, 1917, Chatterjee's most notable work includes research on vinca alkaloids, and the development of anti-epileptic drugs and anti-malarial drugs.

She also authored a considerable volume of work on medicinal plants of the Indian subcontinent.

Google decorates its homepage with doodles on special dates, birthdays of important people and during special events like Cricket World Cup.

Today's doodle marked the 100th birth anniversary of Chatterjee.
