New Delhi, Dec 15 (IBNS) Gyan Vani FM Radio Channels are being reactivated from Jan 2017 with an MoU signed between IGNOU and AIR on Dec 9 in the presence of Prof. Ravindra Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, IGNOU and other senior officials of both the institutions.

The MoU would facilitate the sharing of broadcasting infrastructure of Prasar Bharati across the country for the transmissions of Gyan Vani Radio Stations which possess 10 KW FM Transmitters.

Gyan Vani is an educational FM Radio network began operations in 2001 as a collaborative media initiative of Ministry of Human Resource Development and Ministry of Information & Broadcasting for which IGNOU is the Nodal Organisation.  37 Gyanvani stations across the country were broadcasting educational radio programmes which were both instructional and enrichment in nature for the benefit of different target groups particularly in the remotest regions of the country.

Ravindra Kumar said on the occasion that the University would enhance the number from 37 to 56 in the near future.

He  said, “We are also considering to start these interactive radio sessions with students in Study Centres located in such areas where marginalized students can benefit more.”

P.P. Bhattacharyya, ADG, AIR assured all cooperation of AIR in  starting the Gyan Vani services and in further endeavours by IGNOU for the benefit of distance learners.
