Kolkata:Theatre personality Rudraprasad Sengupta inaugurates the Lokshilpa O Karukriti Mela at Jorasanko Thakurbari

Kolkata, May 7 (IBNS): The West Bengal State Akademi of Dance Drama Music and visual Arts, Rabindra Bharati University on Friday, started its 3-day Lokshilpa O Karukriti Mela with 60 artists, craftsmen and weavers from 15 districts of West Bengal and a wide range of traditional art and craft items made by them.
Eminent theatre artist Rudraprasad Sengupta inaugurated the Mela, with the chief guest being Gautam Dey, Regional Director of ICCR, Kolkata, and the VC of Rabindra Bharati University Prof. Sabyasachi Basu Ray Chaudhury presiding over the inaugural ceremony.

A wide range of highly attractive traditional arts and crafts from 15 districts of West Bengal will be presented at the fair. 
 
A total of 60 artists, craftspersons and weavers will themselves be present at the three-day fair from May 6 to 8

These attractive art and craft items will include patachitras, mats, and decorative items made with coarse grass and buffalo horns from Paschim Midnapur district, traditional puppets from Dakshin 24-Parganas district, batik products from Howrah district,kantha-stitch items and wood carvings from Burdwan district, dokra jewellery, shola crafts and batik products from Birbhum district, traditional clay dolls from Nadia district. Baluchari sarees, dokra crafts and terracotta items from Bankura district, Chhau dance masks from Purulia district, bamboo crafts from Malda district, jute crafts from Murshidabad district, wooden masks, bamboo crafts and dhokra items from Dakshin Dinajpur district.

The Lokshilpa O Karukriti Mela can be visited till May 8 from 8 am to 8 pm daily.
