Love is in the air on V day

Kolkata, Feb 14 (IBNS): The Cupid has returned on the true red lettered day on the calender as lovers across the globe are celebrating Valentine's Day on Saturday.

With the Valentine's Day falling on a weekend this year, it's a win-win situations for the couples to make it a really special day indeed.

As the new year begins, Valentine's Day is awaited with baited breaths by the lovers. A week-long celebration takes place, eventually leading up to Valentine's Day.

The week long celebrations include Rose, Propose, Chocolate, Teddy Bear, Promise, Hug and Kiss Days.

The young generation flood into the malls, coffee shops, parks and movie theaters in pairs, in order to celebrate the entire week as a week of love. There's also a tradition of gift-giving on Valentine's Day. Roses, Chocolates, Cards, Teddy Bears and Jewelry are among the things that are mostly seen as Valentine's gift.

On being asked about her gifting ideas on Valentine's Day, 21 year old student of Camellia Institute of Technology, Illiya Manna said, "Every year I make him gifts instead of spending money to buy one. He loves them. Since I am moving to Bangalore for my new job in a few months, wrote a bunch of letters for him to keep him company when I'm gone."

While the younger generation is in high spirits, Valentine's Day for grown-ups is an excuse to steal some moments away from the usual busy schedule and to spend some quality time with their loved ones.

A survey was conducted by Jeevansathi.com, a matrimony portal in India, with more than 4700 people, encompassing the sample of various age groups.

The survey revealed that 83% of the youth believe in Valentine’s Day. Interestingly, spending quality time and grooming themselves is paramount with as high as 47% people, if compared with people spending the day with their special someone which accounts for 33%.

68% women are taking the lead when it comes to spending the day by themselves or with family / friends rather than with their special someone while 31% men showed interest in spending the day with their Valentine.

On being asked about her plans of Valentine's Day, 21 year old student of Rabindra Bharati University, Soumi Pal Chowdhury said, "I'll take my parents out for dinner. I'll take them to a fancy restaurant and may be ask my boyfriend to join in too. It will be a nice family affair."

When it comes to the ways of celebrating the day, 69% of the women said they would gift their valentine something expensive or plan for a movie or an outing. Whereas 64% men prefer to go out for a lunch/dinner to spend quality time with their valentine.

23 year old, L&T employee Bodhisatwa Goswami said, "My Valentine's Day plan is to take my girlfriend out for lunch and then catch a movie. After that, in evening bring her to my home and climb up to the roof with a champagne bottle and two glasses. We'll probably have the champagne while looking at the stars overhead. Stars in the sky and in the glasses." He chuckled.

In addition to this, when asked on celebrating the Valentine’s Day with Parents, the survey revealed that 82% of women get more creative with ways to celebrate with parents by planning a trip or gifting something expensive to express their love. While 42% men would plan a lunch/dinner with their parents.

Bollywood celebrities also have their fair share of Valentine's Day celebration.

Actress Priyanka Chopra (@priyankachopra) tweeted, "Gratified,talking about my favourite subject #GirlPower 2 all the ladies out there..happy Valentine's Day.Always remember u are so VALUABLE!"

She later tweeted, "N 2 all the guys out there!!! I was told..U don't need a day to love someone..u always love them more than yesterday..Happy Valentine's Day."

Actress Bipasha Basu (@bipsluvurself) tweeted, "Though just 1day of celebrating love is not my idea of love. But nevertheless I am an all heart person so sending all my love to all of you."

Actor Neil Nitin Mukesh (@NeilNMukesh) tweeted, " HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY TO ALL YOU LOVELY PEOPLE !! Keep spreading the love. Hope you are all unlucky in playing cards....Lucky in love!"

Love birds from all over the place are out to paint the town red on Valentine's Day.
