New Delhi/IBNS: Reiek Village in Mizoram was honored with the prestigious "India's Best Tourism Village" Gold Award during the World Tourism Day celebration.

The accolade was presented to Mr. Robert Romawia Royte, Mizoram's Tourism Minister, in recognition of the village's exceptional contributions to sustainable tourism.

The competition, organized by the Central Nodal Agency for Rural Tourism under the Ministry of Tourism, witnessed an impressive participation of 750 villages from 315 districts across 31 states in India, reports EastMojo.

Launched on February 16, 2023, the rigorous selection process identified 80 remarkable villages in early September.

These villages showcased their unique cultural and natural features through compelling presentations and videos to the National Evaluation Committee.

Reiek Village not only secured its place among the top five Gold Award recipients but also distinguished itself across multiple criteria, including cultural and natural resource preservation, economic and environmental sustainability, governance, health and safety measures, cultural conservation, social sustainability, tourism development, and infrastructure improvement.

The award ceremony was attended by dignitaries including Joint Secretary of Tourism V Lalengmawia, VCP Reiek Lalrozama, and other notable figures.

The recognition of Reiek Village's commitment to sustainable tourism marks a significant milestone in India's tourism landscape, reaffirming its place as a beacon for responsible tourism practices.
