NIT Row: Normal life hit in Kashmir
Schools, colleges and business establishments remained closed in Kashmir while thin attendance was witnessed in banks and government offices, officials said.
Authorities have placed Geelani and Mirwaiz under house arrest in Srinagar while Malik was taken into preventive custody and lodged in a local police station two days ahead of shutdown call.
The streets in Srinagar, Kashmir's summer capital and other major towns in the Muslim-majority valley were largely deserted. Thousands of troops were deployed to prevent any protest.
Separatist groups, including both factions of Hurriyat Conference and JKLF, had called for a strike today to protest alleged beating and so-called harassment of Kashmiri students outside the state.
