Rabindra Bharati University confers D.Litt on Amol Palekar, Shirshendu Mukherjee

Kolkata, May 10 (IBNS) The 42nd Annual Convocation of the Rabindra Bharati University was held at the University’s Jorasanko Thakurbari campus in Kolkata here.

In the absence of His Excellency, the Governor of West Bengal, and also Chancellor of the University, Keshari Nath Tripathi, owing to ill health, Sabyasachi Basu Ray Chaudhury, Vice Chancellor of the University, presided over the Convocation.

The Guest-in-Chief at the Convocation was Professor V. S. Chauhan, eminent scientist, Chairman, NAAC, and Member, UGC, who also delivered the Convocation address.

The D. Litt. (honoris causa) was conferred on Amol Palekar, eminent actor, Nirmala Mishra, eminent singer and Sirshendu Mukhopadhyay, eminent Bengali author.

The West Bengal State Akademi of Dance Drama Music and Visual Arts Awards were conferred on K. Jatindra Singh, eminent dancer, Ashok Mukhopadhyay, eminent theatre personality, and Isha Mahammad, eminent painter.

The Acharya Dinesh Chandra Sen Memorial Award in folklore research was conferred on Sabita Ranjan Sarkar.

Seventy scholars were awarded their Ph.D. degrees, and fifty scholars received their M.Phil. degrees at this Annual Convocation.
