Rotary Club of Calcutta Metro City to support patients at the Thalassaemia Society of India

Kolkata/IBNS: The Rotary Club of Calcutta Metro City has taken the initiative to provide and facilitate monetary support for medicines and blood kit testing reagents for patients at the Thalassaemia Society of India, treatment centre.

The program was attended by social activist & Rotary 's members Shyamashree Sen, Sunando Sen, Subhojit Roy, Dipanwita Banerjee and Utpal Panda Secretary Thalassaemia Society of India.

The Rotary Club Calcutta Metro City has been actively working towards raising awareness about thalassaemia, a genetic disorder.

Thalassaemia Awareness and Prevention activist Subhojit Roy said, "We have initiated Thalassaemia Free India  campaign to make people of India aware the necessity to test blood for carrier detection of Thalassaemia trait and has been actively canvassing with the elected lawmakers to create awareness among their electorate and we have also put up hoardings and conducted sessions in schools and colleges to sensitize the young generation.

"Recently the club also tied up Sunidhi Chauhan's I am Home concert in Bengaluru to spread awareness. Icons like Sunil Gavaskar and Mithun Chakraborty have also actively advocated the cause in the past.

"The Club's efforts to raise awareness about thalassaemia is part of our broader goal of disease prevention," concluded Subhojit Roy.
