School dropout from Kolkata reach WorldSkills Competition 2015 in Brazil
Kolkata, Aug 13 (IBNS): Twenty one year old Surajit Kumar Rana, a 5th standard pass from Kolkata was declared as the winner in the 'Jewellery Making' skill at the finals of WorldSkills India 2015.
Rana, who has almost 5 years of equitable industry experience, is now a part of the squad of youngsters that will represent India at the WorldSkills International Competition 2015, taking place at Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The competition has started from Aug 11 and the winners will be announced on Aug 16.
WorldSkills International that is considered to be the equivalent of “Olympics for Skill” is one of its kind global competition that was exclusively created for fostering the development of skills among the youth across the world and is held once every two years.
The selection of Team India which was drawn over an 11 month period starting from April 2014, saw in all 1050 participants from across 27 unique skills. The finals were held in Delhi saw the selection of 29 winners from 27 different categories.
In all a total of 113 rounds were held (85 regional, 27 national and one final round) before the winners were selected by a jury of 58 members who were picked from the respective industry of which they are experts.
WorldSkills India is organised and conducted by National Skill Development Corporation with the support of Confederation of Indian Industry, the apex industry body in India. This year WorldSkills India competition was also supported by the recently created Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE).

As a nation we are united in wishing our delegates. We are confident that the participants will perform well at this Olympic of skills as they did in the Oceania Competition in New Zealand as well. “
