Kolkata, Mar 9 (IBNS): Saluting the spirit of women, Village Welfare Society and VFS jointly celebrated International Women's Day on Monday.
More than 500 poor women from rural Bengal attended the programme.

The event was graced by Sunanda Mukherjee – Chairperson,   West Bengal Commission for Women ;  Dr. Kanchan Gaba, Head, National Association for Blinds, with A. K. Maity, Chairman, Village Financial Services Pvt. Ltd and  Kuldip Maity, MD & CEO, Village Financial Services Pvt. Ltd.

Kuldip Maity, MD & CEO, Village Financial Services Pvt. Ltd. Said, “Women’s Day is about giving girls and women the chance to exercise their right to make choices. Every female fetus, every baby girl deserves a life."

He continued, “In lieu with our mission statement, we take social responsibilities in our strides. We have started “Beti Bachaon” campaign on protection of girl child and to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining a healthy gender balance. The campaign also addresses the issue of rising violence against women and urges society to take a bid to put an end of violence against women”.

“At Village Financial Services, we work with poor women only. We have seen how a woman protects her children and survives from a completely wretched condition. How strong a simple poor uneducated woman can be? So, there could not be a better day than Women’s Day to celebrate their spirit. We believe that empowering women is actually empowering humanity,”  Maity added.
