15 killed, 20 injured as bus plunges into gorge in J&K’s Udhampur
Srinagar/IBNS: At least 15 people were killed and around 20 others injured after a passenger bus plunged into a gorge in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district on Monday, media reports said.
Bus Falls Into Gorge Near Kanote Village
The accident occurred near Kanote Village when the bus, travelling from Ramnagar to Udhampur, lost control and fell into a deep gorge.
Driver Loses Control on Sharp Curve
According to reports, the driver lost control while negotiating a sharp turn on a hilly road.
The vehicle rolled down nearly 100 feet along a rocky slope before landing on a lower road.
Rescue Operations Launched
Local authorities rushed to the spot and launched immediate rescue operations.
The injured were shifted to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
LG Manoj Sinha Expresses Grief
Manoj Sinha expressed grief over the incident and said he has directed the district administration, police, SDRF, and health department to provide all possible assistance to the affected.
“Tragic road accident in Udhampur is heartbreaking. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families. May God grant them strength. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured,” he said in a post on X.
PM announces ex gratia, expresses grief over Udhampur tragedy
Expressing grief over the loss of lives in the Udhampur bus accident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he is deeply pained by the tragedy.
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
The Prime Minister also announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund to the next of kin of each deceased.
The injured will be provided financial assistance of Rs 50,000.
