23rd Conference of COCSSO at Guwahati held

Guwahati, Nov 4 (IBNS): The 23rd Conference of Central and State Statistical Organizations (COCSSOs) was held at Guwahati with a two day long programme from Wednesday.
The programme was organised by the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation in collaboration with The Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Government of Assam.
 
It is organised every year to provide a platform for the Central and State Statisticians to exchange views and discuss common issues relating to statistical activities.
 
It is a major forum for coordination between the Central and State Statistical agencies with the objective of putting in coordinated efforts for making available reliable and timely statistics to planners and policy makers for evidence based decision making.
 
The Conference was inaugurated by Dr. T C A Anant, Chief Statistician of India & Secretary, Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation.
 
The Chief Secretary, Assam, V K Pipersenia was the Guest of Honour. 
 
The opening remarks was delivered by Ashish Kumar, Director General of Central Statistics Office. About 120 senior officers from the central and state government/ UT Administration with representatives of UNICEF, UNDP, UNWOMEN and Indian Statistical Institute participated in the programme.
 
Apart from the review of action taken on the recommendations of the 22nd COCSSO, discussions were held on the theme subject of Monitoring Framework of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) relevant to social development from India perspective, capacity development of State Statistical Systems through support for Statistical Strengthening (SSS), action on 13th Finance Commission recommendations and data availability, gaps and likely challenges in collecting data for compilling social development indicators at State level.
 
The programme was also attended by K V Eapen, Addl. Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam and P.K. Das, Addl. Chief Secretary to the Government of Haryana.  The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Ravindra Singh, Deputy Director General, Central Statistics Office.
