31-member Palaniswamy Ministry takes oath in Tamil Nadu
He was being administered oath of office and secrecy by the Tamil Nadu Governor, Vidyasagar Rao.
Except O. Panneerselvam and Ma Foi K. Pandiarajan,Palaniswamy retained the outgoing Council of Ministers.
Palaniswamy has been given 15 days to prove his majority.
He took over as the leader of AIADMK Legislature Party from VK Sasikala, on Tuesday, after she was convicted in a corruption case and ordered to be imprisoned for four years.
Earlier, Tamil Nadu Governor Vidyasagar Rao invited Palaniswamy to form the government and gave him two weeks to prove his majority in the Assembly.
The oath-taking ceremony marked the end of a 10-day long political turmoil in Tamil Nadu.
The state had plunged into political crisis after O Paneerselvam resigned as the CM. A day later, he claimed that he was humiliated and forced to resign. While the Governor accepted his resignation, he was asked to continue as the caretaker CM.
Around 124 MLAs, led by Palaniswamy are stated to be the members of the camp belonging to VK Sasikala, who had months of tussle with Paneerselvam for the post of Chief Minister before being convicted and jailed.
PalaniswamY virtually makes a windfall gain that emerged out of the prolonged conflict between the two camps of the ruling AIADMK and the unexpected turns and twists of events.
After Sasikala was sentenced to jail, Palaniswamy,57, was elected Leaders of the Legislature party of the AIADMK.
Acting Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam had also met the Governor, but he does not have numbers on his side.
