400 petrol pumps shut in Delhi today as protest against Kejriwal government

New Delhi, Oct 22 (IBNS): Nearly 400 petrol pumps that also sell Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in the national capital will remain shut for 23 hours on Monday to protest against Delhi government's denial to slash Value Added Tax (VAT) on diesel and petrol, media reports said.

The protest was called by the Delhi Petrol Dealers Association after 13 states slashed VAT following Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley's request.

The Association had said consumers were buying petrol and diesel from Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, where fuel prices are cheaper.

However, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has said the shutdown is politically motivated.

He tweeted, "Oil prices lowest in Delhi amongst the four metros. Why aren’t petrol pumps in Mumbai, which has highest prices, on strike? Becoz Mumbai is BJP govt and BJP is behind today’s strike in Delhi. BJP MUST apologize to the people of Delhi"
