Kolkata/Guwahati, Sept 26 (IBNS): Six leader-activists of the banned Bangladesh-based extremist organisation Jamaat ul Mujahideen-Bangladesh (JMB), who were arrested from several locations in West Bengal and Assam, were produced in a local court in Kolkata on Monday and sent to police custody till Oct 6.

According to police reports, Kolkata Police's Special Task Force (STF) apprehended the six JMB activists, including three of Bangladeshi origin, from few locations in West Bengal and its neighbouring state Assam.

Joint Commissioner of Kolkata Police's STF, Vishal Garg, told IBNS: "We were keeping watch on the movements and activities of these six JMB leaders since past few months."

"Acting on source inputs, physical observation and technical surveillance, we caught six suspects, including three of Bangladeshi origin and three of Indian origin," Garg said.

According to police officials, six JMB leaders have been identified as Anwar Hossain Faruk alias Enam alias Kalo Vai, Moulana Yusuf alias Bakkar alias Abu Khetab, Jahidul Sheikh alias Zaffar alias Jabirul, Md. Rafique alias Md. Rubel alias Pichhi, Sahidul alias Surya alias Shamim and Abdul Kalam alias Kalim.

Five of these six arrested were named by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in the charge sheet of Khagragarh blast case, officials claimed.

According to the STF officials, few days earlier Jahidul Sheikh was detained from Cachar district in Assam in connection with a fake currency case and during interrogation, his direct link with JMB was revealed.

Later on Sunday, the STF booked Abdul Kalam from New Cooch Behar railway station and Md. Rafique and Anwar Hossain Faruk from Bongaon-Bagda Road area near India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district.

Remaining two, Sahidul and Moulana Yusuf, were arrested from Natun Bazar area at Basirhat in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.

Police also seized several fake identity documents, few detonators, explosive-like powders, mobile phones, laptops, SD (Secure Digital) cards, ball bearings, pliers, wires and materials, used to cut wires, from their possessions, Vishal Garg told IBNS.

"We have got the six top leaders of JMB in our custody and will interrogate them to nab the JMB module and catch its other operatives in West Bengal and neighbouring states," Garg added.
