78.04 per cent voters turnout in KAAC poll

Guwahati, June 18 (IBNS): A total of 78.04 per cent voters of Karbi Anglong on Saturday exercised their franchises to elect 26 representatives to the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC).

Assam State Election Commissoner H N Bora on Sunday said while addressing a press conference in Guwahati that a total of 78.04 per cent voters turnout in the council poll held in 26 constituencies under KAAC, around 12 per cent higher than the previous council poll held in 2012.

“Out of 5,97,628 voters, a total of 4,66,421 voters had exercised their franchises in the poll. Bokajan sub-division recorded highest voters turnout of 80.26 per cent while 77.42 per cent recorded in Karbi Anglong and 77.21 per cent in West Karbi Anglong,” H N Bora said.

The Assam State Election Commissioner said that voters turnout increased by around 12 per cent compared with previous poll.

Among the 26 constituencies, Duar Bagori constituency recorded highest voters turnout of  88.22 per cent, while only 68 per cent voters turnout in Lumbajong constituency.

According to the state election commission, 76.63 per cent voters turnout in Duar Amla constituency, while 79.73 per cent in Amri, 77.37 per cent in Chinthong, 77.47 per cent in Socheng, 79.59 per cent in Rongkhang, 81.55 per cent in Bithung Rengthama, 77.41 per cent in Kopili, 78.92 per cent in Hamren, 70.60 per cent in Amreng, 79 per cent in Howraghat, 78 per cent in Langfer, 81 per cent in Phuloni, 81 per cent in Langhin, 79 per cent in Korkanthi, 82 per cent in Mahamaya, 82 per cent in Na-Mati, 78 per cent in Dhansiri, 86 per cent in Singhason, 77.72 per cent in Socheng Dhenta, 77.05 per cent in Borjan, 84.58 per cent in Sarupathar, 78.97 per cent in Bokajan, 82.68 per cent in Deopani, 80.46 per cent recorded in Nilip.

The state election commissioner said that, counting of the poll will be held on June 22 next in Diphu, Hamren and Bokajan under CCTV surveillance.

“We have taken adequate measures for the counting. Three layers of security has been arranged for the counting,” H N Bora said.

The state election commissioner said that, a total of Rs 10 crore was expended in the poll.

He also said that, a total of 67 numbers violence report of model code of conduct violence were registered including 51 in Diphu, 10 in Hamren and 6 in Bokajan.
