After BJP, Congress claims stake at Manipur government

Imphal, Mar 13 (IBNS): After the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress too claimed stake to form the Manipur government, citing that they have won the maximum number of seats in the recently concluded Assembly election.

On Sunday, BJP spokespersons met the Governor of Manipur, Najma Heptulla, and claimed to have the support of NPF (National People's Front), NPP (Naga People's Party) and a single seat of Trinamool Congress and Lok Janshakti Party.

However Gaigkhangam Gangmei, Deputy CM of Manipur said: "We have staked claim. Congress party is the single largest party and first chance should be given to us. BJP does not have a pre-poll alliance and it must be decided by the Governor."

After the poll results, Congress secured the top spot with 28 seats while BJP won 21.

BJP said that they would get support of many more MLAs on Monday.

Speaking about the political situation of Manipur, former Finance Minister P. Chindambaram said: "A party that comes second has no right to form the government. BJP stealing elections in Goa and Manipur."

BJP on Sunday stated that they have the support of 32 seats.
